Somewhere in Zimbabwe

2 of my best friends visited Zimbabwe this past summer while backpacking in Africa. One of the girls they met is currently in need of special assistance, here's what they have to say about it:

This summer we visited an orphanage in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe where we met a young girl named Charity, who is deaf. Within a few hours together, we learned she had endured terrible circumstances before reaching the Rose of Charity Orphanage and was in desperate need of learning environment that supported her needs.

You can help send Charity to a full-boarding school where she will receive special instruction and learn with other deaf students. Anything helps- use the code A.L.C.G.A.L.W to donate to the link bellow. The Lion Alert has set up a long term account for Charity and works closely with the orphanage.

Charity has a wonderful spirit and big heart - access to education can help make her future much brighter.

Thank you!

Bookcases Galore!

I love a good bookshelf, but a bookCASE is even better! If I had the space in my tiny apartment I would love to design a bookcase like one of these:

What I'm Reading Now.

I can never read just one book at once. Not to mention I'm the SLOWEST reader! Here's 3 books I'm currently reading & loving

Southland tells the story of a woman whose grandfather is of Japanese descendent. After he dies she discovers his past, how he joined the army after being sent to the Manzanar internment camp, what took place during the Watts riots, and unravels her Grandfathers secrets that he held for so long. Throughout all this she learns to accept & embrace her Japanese identity...trust me, its definitely full of surprises!!!

The Worst Hard Time tells the tales of the dust storms that ripped through the midwest in the dirty thirties. My dad said, if your looking for a good book, read this. And boy was he right! Considering the beau's from Kansas originally I took more of an interest, especially since I'm a born & raised California girl and know nothing about farming, let alone the dust storms! Aside from thing book teaching me a thing or two about history, it also made me realize just how harsh not only the 30's were, but how harsh the dust storms were. Definitely a MUST read for all you history lovers!

The Selby. A girlfriend of mine first introduced me to Todd Selby's blog The Selby where he goes into the homes of his friends and various artists, models, celebrities & creative types. Now let's be honest, most of us have some sort of peeping Tom in us & the Selby isn't afraid to show it! He photographs the interiors where there is nothing to hide. Although its not so much a reading book, its a GREAT book! The Selby shows all sorts of interesting people &  all the weird & corky things they collect...plus it kinda makes you feel normal for having too many knick knacks of sorts!

What are you currently reading? Any recommendations?

Warby Parker.

Warby Parker is a great brand if your looking for good ol' glasses or a stylish & funky pair of shades.
They offer home try on's, so you can try before you buy, wait for it...
free of charge!
You pick 5 pairs of glasses at a time, great when you can't decide on one pair alone.
Check back next week to see which pairs I chose using the home try on program!
